Emile Gilioli

Born in Paris in 1911, he is best known as a sculptor

His first tapestry dates from 1949. Three years later, he became a member of the Association of Cardboard Painters. In 1957, he received the Tapestry Prize in Sao Paulo. Then his creations in tapestry do not stop increasing. He speaks about this art as follows: '' First of all, I like wool, its warmth. It is friendly, warm, lively. ...] In tapestry I can use colour and graphics. There are two tendencies in my work: sometimes it's the graphics that dominate, sometimes it's the form, the plan. In tapestry, I can use both in turn. Sometimes I have combined sculpture and tapestry and other times, it is the tapestry that has sent me back to sculpture".
