Pierre Daquin

Pierre Daquin was born in 1936 in Paris. He came first in the entrance examination for the National Gobelins Manufactures (created in the 17th century for the production of carpets and tapestries for the crown) in 1953. He left the Mobilier National ten years later and founded his own workshop in Noisy le Roy in 1965. He then put the tapestry medium to the test through research into materials and techniques. He revolutionised the autonomy of the medium and developed a new stylistic grammar with white, ovoid form, 3D... In 1968, the workshop moved to Saint Cyr en Arthies. It moved to Paris in 1971. The "Atelier St Cyr" weaves among others Delaunay, Gleb, Tourlières, Grau-Garriga, Vasarely, Picasso, Klee....

From 1970 to 1985, Pierre Daquin exhibited his work in famous institutions, dedicated or not to tapestry, such as the Galerie La Demeure, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée d'art moderne de Paris or the Galerie of tapestry and fiber in Beauvais. In 1987, he was appointed Professor of Artistic Education at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg. In 2008, the museum of Angers devoted a monographic exhibition of his paintings to him.
