With ‘Smoothing the Edges’, the designer and textile artist invites the public to discover his first collection of rugs, presented alongside his ‘Soft Objects’ – knitted vases and light fittings that blur the boundaries between design, art and craftsmanship. A graduate of the École Duperré and the Swedish School of Textiles, Gaspard Fleury-Dugy has been exploring textile techniques to create a unique aesthetic vocabulary. For this exhibition, he has designed four rugs in collaboration with the Chevalier Parsua gallery. “The challenge was to design patterns that do not repeat themselves whilst integrating into a space as a work of art in their own right. So I imagined a continuity between the wall and the floor, as if a tapestry were flowing down to become a rug,” explains the designer, who transforms each piece into a sensory and visual experience.
