Marcel Marois was born in 1949 in Quebec City, where he still lives and works today

Marcel Marois was born in 1949 in Quebec City, where he still lives and works today. He discovered tapestry in the workshop of the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec, where he created his first works based on his own cartoons. In the 1980s, he participated in the Lausanne International Tapestry Biennial, a milestone event in his career.

Inspired by the tradition of modern French tapestry, Marcel Marois developed a unique language combining images from the press, photocopies, collages and watercolours. His works, entirely hand-woven, play on the pixelation of coloured fields and the optical vibration of the threads.

Today, his work is evolving towards a sensitive abstraction, where floating patterns and plays of light create an impression of slowness and depth. His work, both technical and poetic, is featured in numerous public collections in Canada and abroad.
