At Beauvais from 1689 onwards were woven a series of Grotesques on a yellow ground comprising six subjects and inspired by the works of Jean Berain the 1st. This extremely decorative series enjoyed great success and was woven with different designs of borders (« Chinoiseries » borders and borders imitating different styles of picture-frame moulding). All the major museums in United States, Europe and France have one or several tapestries of this serie.
